How to estimate miles we can sweep per hour?
We are a Canadian Co. looking for information re: how many miles can be swept on a street in an hour, under heavy material conditions and under light conditions. Looking forward to your help in this regard.
bidding street sweeping
Learning to bid street sweeping can be a challenge. Everytime you take your machine on a job the conditions will be different. This is the reason you must becareful not to bid to low... By the hour it is hard to lose...you get paid for the time you spend on a job....don't forget to get a place to dump and water you truck. By the mile....travel to dump??? How fast will your machine pick up???? 3 miles and hour??? 2miles an hour???? depending on the amount of leavings you are picking up....What time of year...winter sand??? Fall leaves???? and your picking up leaves with a broom machine??? "your company"..... Answer some of these questions and add common sense....a profit margin.....good maintance and you'll be ready to tell your friends your in the STREET SWEEPING BUSINESS!!!! gale

This is a very difficult question to answer; you have so many variables that can control your sweeping performance.
-Type of machine, air or broom.
-High dump or low dump.
-Conditions of roadways/pavement.
-Dump location.
-Water refill location.
We have swept as little as 1/2 mile per hour on initial cleanings, and as many as 4-6 on routine service.

My situations a little different. We wanted to know is there a formula or equation that we could use to calculate how much we should be charging per hour for cleaning retail centers?
We normally go to the lot and size it up by looking, but I know that is a formula for failure waiting to happen. Anyone have a more realistic and accurate approach.

Is there a way to find out what your competition is charging in the area?

No parking signs- City teams will post “No Parking” signs at least 24hrs before sweeping any streets. Parking will be banned from 7 am to 4.30 pm on the day a street is swept.
