How important is being a full exterior maintenance company?

Is it better to be a 'full service maintenance company,' or to strictly do just sweeping?

How important is being a full exterior maintenance company?

As the world gets busier, profit margins are shrinking and remote property management is becoming more commonplace, is it now more important to be a 'do it all' company? In other words, can you afford to only offer sweeping services?

Or, as we become more specialized as a society, is it better to be a specialist in a particular area instead of a generalist?

If you think adding additional services is the best way to go, what's the best way to add services, which makes the most sense to add first and why?

We started back in 1982 plowing snow. Then added at the owners request removal. (Bobcat & Dump truck) The next year we were requested to add sanding. Then we were requested to clean up the sand so we got into sweeping. it only seemed logical to offer striping/painting after that. along with that came signs. Not any 1 or the typs of work make enough to support me in the way I like but with all of them together it makes a diecent living for my family. Some of my lots I plow, sand, sweep, and stripe every year. Yes in my case it takes it all.

I started in the lawn business. Followed immediately by snow. OUr weather is inconsistant with snow, but we get enough that the lawn business only lasts about 7-8 months with some spring cleanup. If lucky we get 1-2 months of cleaning up leaves before the weather turns. I found the sweeping to be consistant year round so far. I am now targeting sweeping customers and adding the lawn and snow maintenance as a perk to hire us. THis provides the customer with one contractor for all their needs and helps us to maintain work all year. I think they all compliment each other well, and may add striping down the road.
