When one employee 'tattles' on another, how often would you say the allegation turns out to be true?

The Tattletale Phenomenon

What's the best thing to do when one of your workers 'tattles' about something bad that another has allegedly been doing? How do you go about seeing if it's true, especially if there is any kind of friction known to be between the two people?

Does the correct reaction change when the situation involves a health or safety issue? Drugs or alcohol abuse?
