Elgin Broom Badger modifications

Anyone else here bought the Elgin Broom Badger ? Here's several shortfalls , for their stock design, that can be modified for improved performance : 1) The "skirt", at the bottom of the elevators, is a very poor design. By "skirt", I'm talking about the rubber flap that lowers, w...

Re: How we track our Trucks

I'm sure this person is not seeing this post any longer. D/t the O.P. was in 2010. But a tip: Trucking companies these days are very big on employing the technology. So that they can track where their trucks are, whether-or-not their drivers were speeding, whether or not their drivers were taking th...

Re: Prices

My company hasn't done shopping centers for many years now. But back when we did, here's how we determined what the per-sweep price would be : We had a target hourly rate. One rate for a 1-man crew, and another rate if it were a 2-man crew. And then we'd estimate the average time that a shopping cen...

Re: New here

Hello Ferdy.

I had to delete your link to some sort of dog canine site. Because that did not have to do anything with street sweepers :)

Uhh, sure. And let me guess: You're banking on the fact someone will click on your footer link. Right ? Please post something relevant to street sweepers, and ...... maybe I won't delete you.

Re: Best machine for getting asphalt lot clean

There's pro's and con's to each type. Broom vs vacuum type. As you surmise, the broom type is not going to get into the pores and recesses and cracks. And it's not going to get fine dust up. But it will excel at heavy debris. Like larger rocks, nuts, bolts, nails, etc... that a vacuum would struggle...

Re: Rear tyre Punctures on mechanical sweepers

I know the phenomenon that you speak of, for vacuum sweepers. It's the fact that the debris goes up the tube up the "uptake" side of the head. So that any nails that get blown across the length of the head, yet are too dense/heavy to get caught in the air-flow, will eventually skip out fro...

Re: Adjustment question. 2001 Elgin Broom Bear - reply

Yes: If you drive another 1/4 to 1/2 block, on clean flat road, then any debris (millings, dirt, etc... ) should have been long-since up on to the flights, and into your hopper. You are simply bulldozing some stuff forward, and taking too long to catch-a-flight. Possible solutions: a) Do you have a ...

Re: Which type of mechanical sweeper ?

I am not familiar with those Johnston sweepers. The Johnston sweepers do not sell well in the private contractor market. They sell well to municipalities (d/t they're cheapest when it comes to public RFP's). But do not sell well on the auction block when the city's put them out to pasture. Heck, I'v...

Re: Hello from Texas

Welcome from CA. What questions do you have ? Some parts of the USA have had a "race to the bottom" in the shopping center sweeping market. Ie.: clowns bidding super low, and racing around like a bat out of heck doing a lousy job. Unfortunately, the property managers choose these lower bid...

Re: Austin Western for sale

Hey there, I just sent you an email through the forum-system. There is a fellow in the Dec. 2017 issue of Paver and Sweeper market magazine, who is seeking an Austin Western for restoration. His # is 509-999-6426. Let us know how it goes.
