Welcome to WorldSweeper's coverage of the 2016 National Pavement Exposition, which was held in Charlotte, North Carolina in late January.
Below you will find coverage of the presentation of three sweeping-related awards given out at NPE: First, the WorldSweeper/World Sweeping Association's annual Award of Excellence in Power Sweeping, which is a tradition I began in 1995.
A long-time advocate for the pavement industry, Scott Cerosky, won the 'Alan Curtis Industry Service Award' for his efforts in clarifying insurance issues for sweepers and others, as well as for reducing premiums and improving coverage. At the same time, Cerosky was installed into the 'Pavement Hall of Fame.'
There was also the second annual award for NPE's Sweeping Contractor of the Year, which was given out by AC Media, the second-year organizers of the National Pavement Exposition. Finally, we also offer a brief video of the presentation of the NPE's Contractor of the Year.
For the convenience of World Sweeping Association members, we also offer links to the seminar videos of the two conferences that WSA sponsored this year. Until now, these have been available only to WSA Members. However, for this retrospective both have been made available to all in the sweeping industry. That said, if you aren't yet a Member of WSA, this would be a good time to join!
Our coverage this year also includes a photo slideshow of Charlotte's attractions and sweeping industry people attending the show, as well as a variety of videos from the event. In addition to our usual 'sweeper walkaround videos' of the different makes of sweepers at NPE, our coverage this year includes several 'bonus' videos that show some of the fun attendees had together.

Our editor, Ranger Kidwell-Ross, presents this year's WorldSweeper.com/World Sweeping Association Award of Excellence in Power Sweeping to Larry Dyck, co-founder of sweeper manufacturer, MASCO.
Dyck's sweeper manufacturing company is credited with, among other things, founding the first-ever sweeping contractors' association as well as the first written newsletter for sweeping contractors, NewsSweep. The Award was given out during the NPE Sweepers' Roundtable.

Scott Cerosky was the winner of the 'Alan Curtis Industry Service Award' for his efforts in clarifying insurance issues for sweepers and others, as well as for reducing premiums and improving coverage. At the same time, Cerosky was installed into the 'Pavement Hall of Fame.'
New Jersey-based C&L Sweeper Service was honored at the 2016 National Pavement Exposition as the winner of the organization's award for 'Sweeper of the Year.'

NPE also distributed an award for "Contractor of the Year." This year's winner was Mike Musto and his company, U.S. Pavement Services.

The opening of the NPE is always fun, due to the rush of attendees flooding the floor at the start. World Sweeping Association's Educational Video Seminars at NPE
The World Sweeping Association sponsored two seminars at this year's National Pavement Exposition. By arrangement with NPE management, these were videotaped in order to provide educational information for the WSA Members. However, the arrangement requires that the videos only be made available to Members of the World Sweeping Association.

Nitehawk Sweepers' Raptor
Unfortunately, each time we attempted to shoot a video at the Nitehawk show booth there were either too many visitors at the booth or the designated video person wasn't there to provide the walkaround. We didn't want to miss the company, though, so have linked the walkaround of Nitehawk's Raptor sweeper from the 2015 show. Peggy Schwarze Turns 80
During NPE, Schwarze Industries' co-founder, Peggy Schwarze, turned 80 years old. An amazing woman by any standards, she still chooses to work and answers the phone at her son Mark's sweeper manufacturing company, Victory Sweepers.
This brief 'happy birthday' video was made by Ranger Kidwell-Ross, WorldSweeper's editor, prior to presentation of this year's Award of Excellence in Power Sweeping at the NPE Sweepers' Roundtable. In the video, Ranger invites those in the room at the Roundtable to give Peggy a surprise round of applause in honor of her birthday, which was the following day.
